The Open Day at the new branch in St Blazey
A new funeral home in Cornwall
Cornwall now has a new Dignity funeral home to help bereaved families as Ken Newcombe Funeral Directors has opened a new branch in St Blazey.
"We have caringly restored the old Sunday School Chapel to keep the character of the building whilst creating a modern and welcoming funeral home," said funeral director Jacky Smith.
The new funeral home has saved the old Sunday School which was part of a Chapel that had been left derelict for many years with the Chapel itself having been demolished.
"We first looked at this site in 2011, however, the building was in such a state of disrepair that it was considered to be too difficult and too large a project to continue," explained business manager, Jamie Hawke. "We then considered another premises in Par which would have made an ideal funeral home but when we consulted the local community they said they would prefer us to try and restore the Chapel to its former glory. So our focus fell back on the old Chapel in St Blazey."
"There has been huge sums invested in the restoration and it has been a lot of hard work but we now have a very impressive funeral home," added Jacky.
On 14 August Ken Newcombe Funeral Directors held a well attended Open Day and Service of Dedication to officially open the business. For those interested in a more traditional funeral services there was a horse-drawn hearse on display in the car park along with the modern Mercedes fleet. On Wednesday 9 October the new branch was blessed by The Right Reverend Tim Thornton, the Bishop of Truro.
