Forest Hall Bowling Club members with Dignity’s Christine Hardy (9Front centre)
Bowling club brought back from brink of collapse
Members of Forest Hall Bowling Club in North Tyneside were facing the possible closure of their club, which was established in 1922, when the local authority doubled the annual green fees paid by local clubs. But a gallant rescuer was at hand in the shape of Christine Hardy, funeral manager with W S Harrison & Son.
Christine has agreed to sponsor the bowlers for the next year so that the 70 members can continue the popular group and save the club from going under.
"We are very grateful to W S Harrison & Son," said chairman, John Philip. "There are not many things that pensioners can do but we enjoy our bowling and I’ve been playing here for over 30 years. We would have definitely struggled to survive without help from Christine."
