The team at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium with their gardening awards
Crematorium wins "In Bloom" Awards
Last summer, staff at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium were invited to enter the Morecambe In Bloom and North West In Bloom competitions after they were recommended by Lancaster City Council. The judging took place in July and in October crematorium manager, Helen Goodwin, was asked to attend the Presentation Evening where she as delighted to discover they had won the Gold Award.
"What is particularly rewarding is that the judges are all professional gardeners," explained Helen. "Bill Blackledge presents a gardening programme on BBC Radio Lancashire and he told me he had attended a couple of funerals at our site this year and they were very sad occasions but the beauty and tranquillity of the gardens helped him to come to terms with these tragedies."
"Another judge is Paul Cocker, the grounds manager for Lancaster City Council," continued Helen. "He collected one North West In Bloom judge from St Helens and one from Bolton and drove them to our grounds so that they could see them for themselves."
Steve Gant, general manager for crematoria said: "Congratulations to everyone at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium. The gardens always look fantastic, not just when gardening judges are visiting us, and they are a real credit to the team."
