Francis Chappell & Sons celebrate 175 years of service to bereaved families
Francis Chappell & Sons have branches across South East London and are celebrating 175th anniversary of the founding of the business this year.
Francis Chappell & Sons was founded in 1840 by John Chappell, the father of Francis, in Deptford and to honour the occasion, staff have planned to hold various events throughout 2015.
Staff at the branch on Lewisham High Street have joined forced with Francis Drake Bowls Club to create the Francis Chappell & Sons Bowls Competition to be held on Saturday 28 June. Ten neighbouring bowls clubs from across South East London and Kent have been invited to enter.
"The competition is for any triple men, ladies or mixed team and the format will be five games on a round robin basis followed by a final between the two top scoring teams," explained Emma Sparre-Slater, regional training officer. "We hope that the event will be very successful and become an annual fixture at the club."
The event was organised by funeral director, Ian Mutch, and the branch will provide refreshments, a buffet lunch, the use of a marquee and a team trophy.
Staff have also organised a Memorial Service in Southwark Cathedral due to be held in November as well as a number of talks for local interest groups in the area. All of the Francis Chappell branches have also had bespoke window graphics and a framed portrait of the Chappell family installed to celebrate this milestone.
