Staff from the Anglia Region at Sandringham for the Walk Ten event.
Funeral home employees 'Walk Ten' for Marie Curie
On Saturday 30 August funeral home employees covering three counties - Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire - exchanged their company uniforms in favour of trainers to take part in Marie Curie’s annual ‘Walk Ten’ event.
This year’s event gave the walkers exclusive evening access to the beautiful Sandringham Estate, the Norfolk retreat of the Queen. The seven colleagues from W Bailey & Son, W & W G West, R H Fayers & Son, Downham Funeral Service F E Walton and Eric W Witton were joined by their business manager, Lee Nelson on the evening, and started the walk at 6.30pm.
Lee said: “There was an overwhelming response from the public to support Marie Curie with their appeal and hundreds of people attended wearing their bright yellow t-shirts. The walk took us approximately two hours to complete, but a few members of staff got competitive and completed it in 1 and a half hours! In total, the ladies raised over £414 for Marie Curie and had a great evening doing so.”
The walk was followed by light refreshments and live music, which was enjoyed by all. A firework display completed the evening at 10.00pm to symbolise the time of the night that many Marie Curie nurses start their work.
Meaghan Annear, senior corporate account manager at Marie Curie, said: “We are extremely pleased to have the Dignity team’s support for Walk Ten. The money they have raised will pay for our Marie Curie nurses to care for terminally ill people in their own homes and in our hospices.”
