The new Mendip Crematorium in Shepton Mallet
New crematorium for Somerset
The development at Shepton Mallet in Somerset is the second crematorium to be built by Dignity in partnership with Stepnell Construction.
The crematorium will be located at the heart of the Mendip District and will be ideally suited to serve the people of Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury. This new facility will offer much reduced journey times as currently the nearest crematorium is in Bath, 15 miles away.
The crematorium has been designed to be kind to the environment and will feature a fully abated cremator to meet the latest environmental standards. The site will also feature a rain harvesting system that collects rain when the water table is high and stores it for use in the summer. This not only helps to save water but also maintains the Gardens of Remembrance to a high standard all year round.
The crematorium grounds will include a water feature, enhanced by local stone, to provide a beautiful and tranquil place for visitors to remember their loved ones.
The crematorium, which opened in March 2011, will also provide a range of memorials in differing materials, designs and colours.
